2016 Election Coverage

From August to November of 2016, I had the opportunity to be a part of an advanced writing class where I was able cover the campaign and election of 2016. Through this course, I was able to travel to Washington D.C. and Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York for the first presidential debate as well as scope out the political landscape at Longwood University during the vice presidential debate.

While at Hofstra University, I had the opportunity to interview Green Party presidential candidate, Jill Stein as well as her campaign manager, David Cobb, about how her campaign affected the election. Live Twitter Coverage of Election Day 2016

Several times throughout the course we had the opportunity to live-tweet. One of my best was my live coverage of Election Day. Using the social media aggregation site, Storify, I was able to gather all of my tweets and others that captured the culmination of a historic and controversial election of the 45th President. Capturing the Student Experience

The culmination of the writing course was resulted in our work being put on display in a gallery at the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts. There our tweets, story texts, and physical ephemera such as signs, newspapers, media credentials, and many other debate and election related material were displayed. To help the gallery visitors get a sense of what the students experienced, I produced a video featuring several students sharing their stories.
